Job Description

JOB SUMMARY

  • The Lab Material Engineer is responsible for managing and developing consumable materials used in tool testing, such as cutting discs, grinding wheels, drill bits, nails, and test substrates. This role involves evaluating material quality, validating new materials, and performing correlation studies to ensure consistent performance across different suppliers or specifications. The engineer will collaborate closely with testing, sourcing, and R&D teams to support lab operations and material improvements.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND AUTHORITIES

  • Develop and qualify new consumable materials for lab tool testing (e.g., cutting, grinding, drilling, fastening tests)
  • Perform material performance evaluation, durability testing, and quality assessment
  • Conduct correlation studies between different material sources or specifications to ensure consistency and alignment with test requirements
  • Define material specifications in collaboration with testing and engineering teams
  • Manage inventory, usage tracking, and sourcing needs for lab consumables
  • Work with suppliers to understand technical data, resolve issues, and improve material performance
  • Maintain documentation of material evaluations, approvals, and change history 
  • Contribute to lab process improvement by optimizing material usage and supporting new test setups

Job Requirement

REQUIREMENTS

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Materials Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related field

Experience

  • 1–2 years of experience in materials testing, lab engineering, or manufacturing support roles

Knowledge

  • Basic understanding of mechanical testing material (abrasives, cutting tools, wood, fasteners, etc.)

Functional Skills

  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail in material evaluation
  • Familiarity with material testing methods and performance metrics
  • Good communication and reporting skills
  • Ability to work both independently and cross-functionally

Other Abilities

  • Experience with correlation analysis or validation processes is a plus
