Job Description

Position summary: Extensive knowledge of tooling and process with the ability to provide technical support to engineering teams and suppliers, help to train new engineers, and keep abreast of industry trends and new technologies.

  1. Professional drawing analysis capabilities, including GD&T knowledge, require providing professional suggestions for unreasonable structures and tolerances on the drawings. 
  2. Proficient in processing skills, capable of formulating processing techniques based on drawings, including fixture design and tool selection skills .
  3. Understanding of Die Casting Processes: Proficiency in various die casting processes such as high-pressure die casting, low-pressure die casting, and semi-solid die casting. Knowledge of the entire process flows, including mold preparation, metal melting, injection, cooling, ejection, and post-processing.
  4. Metallurgy Knowledge: In-depth understanding of the properties and behaviors of different metals and alloys used in die casting, such as aluminum, zinc, magnesium, and their alloys. This includes knowledge of their melting points, thermal conductivity, shrinkage rates, and mechanical properties.
  5. Material Selection: Ability to select the appropriate materials for specific applications based on factors like strength, weight, corrosion resistance, and cost.
  6. Mold Design and Tooling: Familiarity with mold design principles and the ability to work with mold makers to ensure the molds are designed for optimal filling, venting, and ejection. Knowledge of mold materials, coatings, and maintenance.
  7. CAD/CAM Software: Expertise in using computer-aided design (CAD) and computer-aided manufacturing (CAM) software to create and modify die cast component designs and mold designs. Commonly used software includes SolidWorks, UG, or Pro/E.
  8. Simulation Software: Ability to perform simulations to analyze die fill, solidification, and thermal balance. This helps in predicting potential defects and optimizing the casting process. Software like Flow-3D, and Magmasoft are commonly used for such simulations.
  9. Defect Analysis and Resolution: Ability to identify and troubleshoot common defects in die cast parts such as porosity, shrinkage, cold shuts, and surface defects. Knowledge of corrective measures and process adjustments to eliminate these defects.
  10. Process Optimization: Analytical skills to optimize die casting processes for improved efficiency, reduced cycle times, and enhanced product quality. This involves analyzing process parameters like temperature, pressure, injection speed, and cooling time.
  11. Interpersonal Communication: Strong communication skills to effectively convey technical information to team members, stakeholders, and clients. Ability to explain complex concepts in a clear and concise manner.
  12. Team Collaboration: Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams, including design engineers, production staff, quality control personnel, and other departments. This involves coordinating efforts to ensure smooth operations and timely project completion.
  13. Planning and Scheduling: Skills in planning and scheduling die casting projects, ensuring that all tasks are completed on time and within budget. This includes coordinating with suppliers, managing resources, and setting realistic timelines.
  14. Documentation: Ability to create and maintain detailed documentation of designs, processes, test results, and project progress. This ensures traceability and provides a reference for future projects.
  15. Responsible for providing technical support to the tooling team as an expert in troubleshooting die casting tooling for production.
  16. Attend to solve production tooling issues and to resolve in an efficient and expeditious manner.
  17. Recommend and improve tooling performance quality.
  18. Comprehensive knowledge of tooling design
  19. CNC programming and machining, and tool fabrication
  20. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  21. Ability to perform root cause analysis
  22. Learn/maintain new systems
  23. Any other tasks as assigned by Tooling manager

Job Requirement

  • Diploma / Tool making Engineering
  • At least 5~8 years of relevant work experience in a manufacturing company
  • Good experience in broad range of tooling in injection molding and blow molding.  Extrusion, plastic tooling and metal stamping experience is a plus.
  • Good analytical and troubleshooting skills
  • Good communication skills
  • Fast worker with sense of urgency
